(Recorded on Sunday, March 3)

Ephesians 4:11 – And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,

We have been talking about the gifts God has given and personifying that you’re the gift and God equips you as the gift to function giving you all the tools you need.

Apostle – one who had witnessed the resurrected Christ and was also commissioned by God.

Prophets – the entire prophecy has been given, so there is not a need for new prophets. God’s revelation has been given in 3 segments: Creation (It’s created), Transformation (It’s finished), and Consummation (It’s done).

Evangelism – bringing the gospel to the multitudes. Examples: Billy Graham

Pastors – A pastor must feed the sheep, be willing and able to give wisdom and communicate what he knows to others and most importantly needs to keep the sheep accountable.

Roles of a pastor:

  1. Feed the sheep
  2. Leadership – be the example (imitator of Christ)
  3. Protect the sheep
  4. Teach
  5. Hold people accountable

1 Cor 12:28

And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.

1 Timothy 3:2

A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach;

All pastors must be teachers, but not all teachers are pastors, so these gifts can be considered 2 separate gifts.

Now that we understand what the gifts are, we’ll learn about the purpose for the gifts next time. Stay tuned…
